Dub Delay by Asrodot

Overview

Dub Delay by Asrodot is an audio effect app for iPad that is compatible with AUv3 and can be used as a standalone app or within your favorite DAW, such as AUM, Cubasis, or Garageband.

It replicates the behavior of an analog tape delay unit and provides you with filtering and saturation options to modify the output signal before it is fed back into the delay unit.

Features

Delay

Analog style tape delay with tempo sync option. Delay time, as well as tempo sync, can be fine-tuned.

Filters

Two filters with adjustable cutoff frequency and resonance. Filters options are: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass or band-reject.

Saturation

Tube-like distortion unit.

LFO

LFO allows modulation of filter cutoff frequencies and/or saturation amount. 7 different waveforms are selectable.

Controller Pads

Parameters are freely assignable to 3 xyz controller pads.

Connectivity

Supports AUv3, Audiobus , Inter-App audio and MIDI. Supports cross-DAW user patches.

Audio Examples

Delay Unit

The Delay unit enables you to set delay times ranging from 0 to 3 seconds, or 9 milliseconds to 10.7 seconds when utilizing the Tempo Sync feature. The unit emulates the behavior of a vintage analog tape delay, which means that significant adjustments to the delay time will result in pitch variations in the delayed audio until the "tape" catches up with the new setting. The Fine knob enables precise adjustments to the delay time. When paired with the Tempo Sync feature, it enables you to choose tempo-synchronized delay times that are just the right amount of "off".

Filter Units

You have access to two 12 db/octave Filter units with adjustable cutoff frequency and resonance that allow you to color the sound before it goes back into the delay unit. The first filter unit affects the signal coming straight from the delay unit, and the resulting output proceeds through the saturation unit to the second filter. Both filters can operate as low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, or band-reject filters. To determine the extent of input signal (0-100%) that will undergo processing by the filters, use the Amt knob. Additionally, the cutoff frequency of both filters can be modulated using the LFO unit.

Saturation Unit

The Saturation unit is positioned between the first and second Filter unit. It amplifies the audio signal and adds a tube-like distortion effect. The amount of amplification can be adjusted using the Drive knob. Increasing the Drive setting results in greater distortion. Additionally, the Mod knob controls the amount of modulation that the LFO unit applies to the Drive setting. The modulation amount can be set to be either positive or negative.

LFO unit

The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) unit generates a varying control signal that can be utilized to modulate both the filter cutoff frequencies and the saturation amount. The frequency range of the LFO starts at 24.1 seconds per cycle and goes up to 30 Hertz. The waveforms that can be chosen include Sine, Triangle, Square, Sawtooth, Inverse Sawtooth, Random Steps, and Random Smooth.

Controller Pads

Three controller pads can be freely assigned for alternative control. The special z-axis lets you override on/off settings like Input Mute while touching the pad. The pads are especially handy in classic dub delay tweaking sessions, where multiple knobs need to be tweaked at once while audio is being fed back into the delay. For example, a single pad can move the effect unit out of bypass mode while simultaneously control both how much audio is being send into the delay unit, and how much of the delayed audio is being fed back into that delay unit.

AUv3

The AUv3 plug-in version of the app features a choice to switch between displaying the knobs section or the pads section. Some DAWs allow for expansion of the screen area dedicated to plug-ins, enabling both sections to be shown simultaneously.

Patches saved within the app will be shared among DAWs.
